Funk Traffic brings together a group of musicians who have spent years sharing stages, sessions, and late night jams across Southern California. Featuring drummer Matthew Elton Smith, guitarist Deen Anbar, bassist Taiki Tsuyama, and trumpeter Cade Gotthardt, the band draws on a wide range of influences, from funk and soul to jazz and modern improvisation. Several members of the group are regular contributors to Los Angeles’ celebrated Very Good Mondays, a weekly gathering known for bringing together some of the region’s most creative and in-demand musicians. That same spirit of collaboration, spontaneity, and community is at the heart of Funk Traffic. Named after the constant flow of music, ideas, and musicians traveling between Los Angeles and San Diego, Funk Traffic is a celebration of the creative connection between the two cities. The music moves effortlessly between pocket funk, soulful melodies, and adventurous improvisation, creating a show that’s as much about the moment as it is the material. Whether you’re a musician, a music lover, or simply looking for a good time, Funk Traffic offers some of Southern California’s finest musicians doing what they do best: listening, creating, and making the room feel a little smaller through the power of live music.
