This significant step set the stage for numerous collaborations with legendary artists such as Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Gil Evans, and Larry Coryell. Among his many accolades, Shunzo became the first jazz composer to win first place in the International Songwriting Competition Award for his composition "Musashi." After a four-year hiatus, Shunzo is returning to San Diego, marking 50 years since he joined Art Blakey and a decade since receiving his prestigious award. His journey, marked by resilience and dedication, has resonated with fans worldwide and a heart-warming documentary short, "Never Defeated."
