The Sleepy Pearls - 8:30P The Sleepy Pearls are led by Violette Larsen and Brendan Michie - both of whom have a deep appreciation for the byegone era of California beach music and Western folk of the Fifties and Sixties. The two initially met in 2020 when the world was seemingly paused for months. They used this time to write songs about past and present experiences together, while traveling up and down the coast for inspiration. Several years of writing and recording later, they have expanded their band into a six piece performance and are ready to share their debut album “That’s the Spirit” - slated to release on July 16th, 2024. The tender songs were recorded to 2 inch tape by producer Jordan Andreen, and feature droning omnichords, dreamy pedal steel, and a quartet of string musicians - all of which steer the listener gracefully between sounds reminiscent of bustling Parisian cafes, long solitary country road trips, and quiet nights in deep reflection. These sounds, combined with their willingness to experiment and explore the boundaries of blending old styles with contemporary elements creates a truly unique experience. Hofstee pushes and pulls from his acoustic, indie rock foundation to explore new sonic landscapes in his debut full length album; experimenting with layers of ambient sounds, tape machines, synths, drum loops, and meditative lyrics to help answer his internal questions. His songs vary from bombastic drums and fuzzy guitars to soft spiritual acoustic compositions reflecting on the beautiful and challenging moments of life’s ever-changing seasons.
