Formed in the summer of 2017, this unique ensemble features three accomplished band leaders, creating a special synergy that captivates audiences. Matthew and Mackenzie, who also collaborate in themattsmithneujazztrio, propelled the trio into success with two memorable tours in the fall of 2017 and 2018. During these tours, they hosted engaging clinics and live performances at various colleges throughout Southern and Northern California, sharing their passion for music and inspiring budding musicians. The roots of this collaboration can be traced back to the online forum “Jam of the Week,” where Matthew and Horace first connected. Their musical journey continued when Smith joined forces in the band Southpaw Preachers, which became the catalyst for their larger creative vision. After a hiatus since 2018—due to Matthew completing his graduate studies at California Institute of the Arts and Horace establishing himself in the bustling music scene of NYC while performing with artists like Maggie Rogers and Blue De Tiger—the trio is poised to reclaim its place in the spotlight. Now, reinvigorated and ready to pick up where they left off, Smith.Bray.Leighton is set to captivate audiences once again with their fresh sound and compelling performances.
