March features San Diego’s own Holly Hoffman on flute. Holly Hofmann is a renowned American jazz flutist, widely regarded as one of the leading and most influential players on the instrument since the late 1980s. Classically trained with degrees from the Cleveland Institute of Music and the University of Northern Colorado, she began playing flute at age five alongside her jazz guitarist father and developed a powerful, bebop-oriented style that treats the flute as a bold front-line voice rather than a delicate one.She has collaborated with jazz legends like Ray Brown, Kenny Barron, Frank Wess, and Cedar Walton, released over a dozen critically acclaimed albums as a leader (including Live at Birdland). Based in San Diego she is also known for her work as a concert presenter and remains a standout figure in jazz for her intensity, robust tone, and dedication to the flute.
